(Thursday 19th - Monday 23rd January 2017)
A provisional tour itinerary is detailed below along with the 3 different accommodations we will be using to cover the event.
After the exciting 'blast around the harbour', PR functions, Ceremonial Start & Tyre Fitting Zone on Thursday, Friday is at leisure in Monaco before we pick up the rally as things hot up on the second full day of the event around Gap on the Saturday. We plan to see the cars over the punishing Lardier et Valenca-Oze stage on Saturday morning followed by a visit to the Service Area in Gap to see the new 2017 WRC cars being worked. On Sunday we will be on the summit of the 'Turini' to see both runs of the legendary Col de Turini Stage (from our hotel balconies in some cases!). The 2nd run will be the all-important and decisive PowerStage, and then we aim to be down in Monaco at the Royal Palace for the Podium celebrations, before a final night complimentary evening meal at Stars 'N' Bars in Monte Carlo!
Please note we have a shorter Tour Option of joining us directly at the Nice hotel on Friday afternoon which reduces the price by £75pp (£122 for single travellers). If you would like to take this option please email us to confirm after making your deposit booking for the standard tour.
Please click on the Red Button or call our Reservations Team on 01765 640055 to book.
Please note that because of the different overnight locations used on this tour guests will be restricted to 1 case of luggage per pair, and 'soft' bags only will be allowed in the seating area of the minibuses.
(Thursday 19th January 2017)
Our tour begins with a handshake from your Rally Travel Tour Guide, and a transfer at 1pm from Nice airport to Monte Carlo! After arriving at the Palais Josephine apartments close to Casino Square, your Tour Guide will accompany the group to 2017 WRC Launch activities in Monaco.
We anticipate these to be similar to 2016 which included the Top Drivers taking celebrities for high-speed 'Demo's' around the harbour front! There was much smoking of tyres and plenty of 'Ken Block style' Donuts on display last year in front of the spectators, and afterwards a good informal chance to mingle with the cars and WRC Drivers. Later on in the evening at around 6pm there will be the Ceremonial Start back up at Casino Square, and then just over a mile away the first Tyre Fitting Zone of the rally. The atmosphere at the 'tyre zone' will be electrifying as the crews & teams agonise over their potentially rally winning (or losing!) choice of tyres for the opening loop of stages.
(Friday 20th January 2017)
After your first evening enjoying Monte Carlo, there is the chance to explore the principality further today whilst been kept up to date with the opening day's rally news from your Rally Travel Tour Guide. In the afternoon the group will transfer to the Park Inn in Nice, giving Guests time to explore another part of the Cote d'Azur.
For those Guests wishing to join us at this point on the tour, having missed the Thursday night and activities out, there is a short complimentary shuttle bus service to the Park Inn Hotel from Nice airport.
There will be an informal briefing in the evening by your Rally Travel Tour Guide to keep everyone up to date with the rally and introduce those just arriving on the shorter Tour option.
(Saturday 21st January 2017)
After breakfast and checking-out of the hotel we will depart by comfortable 9-seater MPVs for the LARDIER et VALENCA-OZE stage. At 31km long the stage is one of the longest of the rally and a real test for crews and their new for 2017 cars! Our Tour Guests were on hand in 2015 to see Ott Tanak's spectacular 'off' on the downhill approach to our viewing area!
After the stage we will drop down into Gap for a look around the main Service Area as the WRC cars and private teams work hard during one of the service halts of the day. Following Service we will return back to the Cote d'Azur along the main coast road above Monte Carlo & then climb high into the mountains along some of the actual route the rally cars will race along the following day.
Our hotel for the next night is one of only two located 'trackside' to the actual Col de Turini stage right on the summit, and whilst being a typically rustic 2-Star hotel, at the Trois Vallees Hotel you can literally walk out from the front door straight onto the edge of the rally stage! Final treat of the day will be a complimentary Evening Meal with wine, served in the restaurant of the hotel where the WRC stars have dined since the 1960's!
(Sunday 22nd January 2017)
After the late arrival and check-in the evening before, guests will wake up to the clear mountain air and some spectacular views from our location 1607m (5272ft) up in the French-Italian alps!
Every year several of our guest rooms at the Col de Turini hotel have had balconies overlooking the stage -truly a unique feature in the WRC! (see photos right & below taken from our balconies!)
After breakfast there will be chance to walk around this iconic part of the stage or just relax in the Trois Vallees hotel bar. Here you can soak up the atmosphere amid the many souvenirs & momentoes donated by famous rally stars from the past. Signed photos of rally drivers past and present adorn the walls as rally legends such as Ari Vatanen, Markku Alen and Walter Rohrl used to decamp to the hotel for days on end during the unlimited recce days of the 1970's and 1980's.
The atmosphere at the Col de Turini is always incredible and we are in for a treat in 2017 as there will be 2 stages over the 'Turini', the first one in the morning when there will likely still be ice on the road from the overnight low temperatures, and then the 2nd run will actually be as the decisive 'PowerStage' at lunchtime! At 21.2km long the 'Turini' is bound to be the deciding act of the event - so expect high drama and plenty of 'side-ways' action over the summit as the stages blast past our hotel!
After the 2nd of our Col de Turini stages (the PowerStage) we will head back down the traditional rally stage route, through Moulinet & the Italian border town of Sospel and down to the coast road to Monte Carlo. Arriving at the Adagio Monaco Palais Josephine apartments (just 300 metres walk from Casino Square!) we will take time to check-in to the apartments before the tour continues sans luggage with a tour around the Monaco F1 Grand Prix track en-route to the Rally Finish celebrations/Service Area!
Finally, out guests are free to enjoy the rest of the day at leisure in Monte Carlo before joining us for an 'End of Tour evening meal (included in the package!) at the Stars 'n' Bars' restaurant, a favourite of the WRC teams & Drivers on this final night. Will we be joined by Sebastien Loeb for our 'End of Tour' meal - we were briefly in 2015!
(Monday 23rd January 2017)
At leisure in Monte Carlo after Breakfast and checking-out of the Apartments mid-morning. We will be 'providing unaccompanied transfers back to Nice airport leaving the hotel at 10:00 and 16:00 to meet most flight options.
Alternative transfer times to those included in the package can be booked at extra cost, and additional nights at the beginning or end of the tour can also be arranged.
